New Catechumens & Celebration of Fr. Christopher

February 12, 2026

We welcomed two new catechumens, Jonathan and Ryan, to Holy Cross before Divine Liturgy this past Sunday. And after a Mexican-themed coffee hour (Fr. Christopher enjoys Mexican cuisine), we were finally able to celebrate Father’s 20th anniversary of his ordination (January 22nd) and his 50-something birthday (January 25th).

At the Hierarchical Liturgy on February 5th, Archbishop Alexander awarded Father the epigonation (or palitza in Russian) for his years of distinguished service as our parish priest. The epigonation, a diamond-shaped vestment worn over the right knee, symbolizes the celebrant as a soldier of Christ who defends the faith with the “sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).

Ben B., Deacon Dan, Ana, Genevieve, and Matushka expressed our gratitude and thanksgiving for Fr. Christopher’s years of selfless work at Holy Cross, and the kids sang Happy Birthday in Spanish!

It was a joyous way to cap off a crowded few weeks of snow and ice, several changes of church plans, and intense preparation for the Pastoral Conference. Thanks to Angelo and Sergey for these lovely photos.

Glory to God for all things!
