Iconography on a Quiet Monday

The Pantcrator at Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Kernersville

January 4, 2026

“Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.”

After a very busy and joyful Nativity week at Holy Cross, Sergey took photos this past Monday of our new iconography: the Pantocrator, the Theotokos, the Holy Evangelists, and the Old Testament figures of the pre-incarnate Christ.

Words can’t adequately describe the sublime beauty of the iconography. Heaven has opened, and we enter into the worship that is taking place around the throne of God.

We are so grateful to John Jurewicz for his tireless work and also to those who set up the nave, painted backgrounds, cut canvas, took photographs and video, hosted John’s family, and donated money towards Phase 1. Lord willing, we will have John and his family back sometime this year to begin work on Phase 2.

Special thanks to Sergey Novikov for these beautiful photos!
