Cross from red oak tree at Holy Cross Orthodox Church — *A new cross from the old tree*

We purchased the land on Masten Drive in 2013. A large red oak tree had stood on the property for many years. In October 2021, the site was cleared in preparation for building our church, and the tree came down.

A forward-thinking parishioner decided to salvage some boards from that tree. The crosses now on sale ($35) in our bookstore were made from these boards. The display stand in the bookstore also comes from these boards; the stand gives you a good idea of what the wood looked like before we made the first cut.

The tree was old and the wood is gnarly so the crosses we’ve made reflect the imperfections in the wood. We’re delighted that the old red oak lives on in these crosses!

All sale proceeds will go to support the further work of Holy Cross.
